Pokoyhof Passage is a place open to cultural initiatives
Modern business more and more often performs a role of a sponsor or patron of art. Is investment in art profitable?

 

Dorbud also supports other artistic initiatives. For instance, the company co-organized an exhibition with the National Museum in Krakow, which presents an installation by Leon Tarasewicz, and then it contributed to the establishment of an artistic installation of Ludwika Ogorzelec titled “Intellectual tension.”

However, these are not the only undertakings by Dorbud aimed at support of culture and art. It is worth pointing out an authorial project of the company, that is an artistic calendar, which presents works of talented artists of young and medium generation from Poland. It is a form of promotion of interesting phenomena of modern art as well as an opportunity for young artists to present their skills. There are works of different artists presented in the calendar every year, and, among authors who prepared their collections for Dorbud are Maurycy Gomulicki, Grzegorz Drozd, or Jakub Ciężki.

 

Office open to art 

 

A 6-tier Pasaż Pokoyhof, which is located in the city centre of Wrocław, offers not only office and service space but also a place open to different cultural initiatives. There are flexible areas available in some parts of the building, which allow for organization of many events such as big concerts as well as small meetings. Many events have been already organized in Pasaż: concerts, exhibitions, fashion shows, performances, or an interactive projection of a graphic during the Night of Museums. Additionally, New Horizons Festival, Musica Polonica Nova and Kawa Festival are cultural initiatives which were also held in this building.

 

Art in public space

 

Another developer – Ghelamco Group – promotes culture very actively. As a patron of art, the company operates within the “Art in the City” Foundation. It was established for realization of activities aimed at enhancement of quality of public structure through support and promotion of cultural initiatives held in public space as well as organization of various events for local society. In accordance with the assumptions of the foundation, the promotion of social cultural activity or interest of people in issues related to art, science, cultural works protection, etc., is a way for shaping active citizenship.

Aesthetics of public space is of great importance for Ghelamco. The Belgian developer introduced art into city structure of Warsaw in the form of an artistic mural. Murals also constitute an excellent decoration and complementation of space on Plac Europejski located in Warsaw Spire. Good Looking Studio and two extraordinary artists: François Schuiten and Rafał Olbiński were invited to cooperation on this project. The graphics of known artists make that murals are called pieces of art. Additionally, they often become interesting points on the artistic and cultural map of a given city.

While mentioning Plac Europejski, it is worth pointing out Art Walk Gallery. It constitutes a new place for art in the city and it is fully integrated with the surrounding public space on Plac Europejski. The gallery was created in accordance with the concept of Ghelamco, which envisages entering art in every-day life of the city. Art Walk is 57-meter long and it comprises 20 segments. Each segment has a “window” out of the internal gallery. Mac Stop from the Massive Design studio is responsible for the project of Art Walk. The construction of the Gallery allows for an all-year exhibition of paintings, sculptures and artistic installations. Art Walk is a place which makes works of artists available and it creates an opportunity for both inhabitants and tourists to have contact with art outside museums and galleries. 

 

Business, also the one from the real estate industry, is becoming more and more eagerly singed into culture. People who are related to business have increased awareness of the importance of culture for quality of their actions. At present, the investment in art is not only assessed in the category of an efficient form of activities involving public relations. It is related to participation of a given company in social life and its impact on cultural development of local community. The investment in culture is an example of Corporate Cultural Responsibility, which becomes more and more popular among Polish companies.
