Building works on the railway station in Gliwice are going to start in Autumn this year. PKP SA received five offers in the proceedings for the choice of a contractor. The decision of the bidding will begin in October.

The most important aim of the railway station’s reconstruction in Gliwice is the improvement of the travelers’ comfort and adjustment of the structure to modern standards of the service. A passage which connects both halls, which enables the moving in the station, and access to functions located in it.

The complex will be adjusted to needs of disabled people. There will be leading lines installed in the floor with an attention area. They will help the blind and partially sighted to reach the most important places in the railway station. PKP is going to lower some cash desks and install elevators which will lead on higher tiers. In the building there will be also toilets adjusted to needs of the disabled.

The old departure and arrival boards will be replaced by modern electronic boards and the vocal information system of travelers will be replaced. In order to improve the safety, the contractor will develop the monitoring system which will cover the whole complex. Moreover, in the railway station there will be a modern fire system and BMS – the system of an intelligent management of the building.

The renovation will consider historical elements of the structure, including mosaic located in the main hall and wooden ceilings. The elevation along with architectural details will be renovated and it will have a new illumination. Above the railway station’s entrance, a new clock and inscription with a new name of the station will be mounted. The general development will also include platforms which will have new areas and a shelter with glass and tunnels – connected with platforms with the use of escalators and elevators. In the area of the station, the railway track will be replaced.

The investment is co-financed from the European Union means, thanks to the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme. The development of the railway station and three platforms will finish till the end of 2015 and works on the fourth platform will last till 2016. The project of the Gliwice railway station was prepared by PAS Projekt Archi Studio. So far, PKP S.A. has reconstructed railway stations in Gdynia and Wrocław with the use of the European Union means and it built an underground Main Cracow station.
