Warsaw – European Green Capital

Metropolitan city is going to apply for a title of the European Green Capital in 2018. The application in this case has been already submitted to the European Commission.

Metropolitan city is going to apply for a title of the European Green Capital 2018. The application in this case has been already submitted to the European Commission. Thanks to e.g. implemented changes in the area of sewage treatment, presence of low-emission public transport or diverse wildlife, Warsaw has a chance for receiving this title. We put a lot of effort into making Warsaw clean, ecological and good for every-day life for all inhabitants. The fact of granting the European Green Capital award to Warsaw will be an honor for us as well as confirmation that our activities are going in a good direction – says Michał Olszewski, deputy of president in Warsaw.

 

All urban centers from the European Union countries may apply for this title. Each sent application is analyzed by an international jury composed of experts in certain fields, which are related to a particular application, e.g. local contribution directly connected with prevention from global climate change, management of public transport, areas of public greenery, reduction of noise, production of waste and its management, protection of nature and biological diversity, quality of air, water consumption, sewage treatment as well as implemented eco-innovations.

 

The European Green Capital award is granted to the city which is going to present documented achievements in the area of environmental standards and realize activities for enhancement of condition concerning environment and sustainable development. The European Green Capital title has been already granted to such cities as Stockholm, Hamburg or Copenhagen.
