Bees On The Rooftop

Bronowice Business Center is the first office complex in Krakow which joins the project called “Apiary Krakow”. There are already 225 000 bees in 5 hives on the office rooftop.

The main goal of the borough project “Apiary Krakow” is to make bees feel at home in the city and spread the knowledge on these insects and their importance to humans. Various buildings have already joined the project, including the first office which is a part of the Bronowice Business Center office complex owned by Mix Group.

Bees moved into the apiary at the beginning of June. Its official opening, however, will be held on July 3, 2018, at 11.30 a.m. This will be a perfect occasion to see the apiary and the bees as well as to meet the beekeeper who takes care of them.

“Apiary Krakow” project has been operating within the city space for almost a year. New apiaries have already appeared on the rooftops during that period (there are currently 9 apiaries) and lots of meetings and training courses have been organized. They aimed at spreading the idea of inviting bees to the cities and encouraging the inhabitants to seed the bee-friendly plants on their plots, balconies and in their home gardens.

Apiaries that appear on the rooftops of the Krakow buildings are constantly supervised by the beekeeper from the Krakow Association of Beekeepers. Each of them is a “small honey factory”. The honey collected from the apiaries that belong to the project serves to promote the city among inhabitants and people from the outside. Some of the collected honey is given to the companies with head offices located in the building on the roof of which the apiary is placed.
