LOT restructuring will be financed from public funds, such solution is to be an alternative for sales of assets which have been taking place for some time now. So far LOT Catering, LOT Aircraft Maintenance Services and LOT Services have new owners. Corrective actions are also to improve the coordination of cooperation between the Ministry of Treasury and the Ministry of Transport which is responsible for supervising the actions of “Porty Lotnicze” state company.
Too high maintenance costs in the Polish Airlines exceeded the profits, thus LOT functioning is no longer profitable. According to an infrastructure expert from Wyższa Szkoła Bankowa (School of Banking) in Bydgoszcz, the still existing potential of the company should not be ignored. Maintaining LOT has its value. It should not be ignored as an entity on the economic map. National airline provides job places, it is also an engineering potential of knowledge about how to manage, conduct and take part in air traffic – says Bogusław Kowalski from the Logistics Chair at WSB for Newseria information agency.
After the public support for LOT is approved, works on specific proposals to stabilize the financial situation need to be undertaken. LOT provides around 40 percent of the incomes for Okecie International Airport. Polish airports have been generating positive financial results, quite significant, for several years now, on the other hand LOT has been producing negative financial results. Here I see certain potential for improvement of the situation, for better regulation of the infrastructure costs for LOT, which on the one hand improved its financial situation, perhaps limited public support in the area, and for sure improved its competitiveness at the expense of lower incomes of airports – says Bagusław Kowalski
The restructuring plan aims at increasing the level of investment attractiveness of the air infrastructure and preparing the shares of the airline to be sold to private investors.
