An architectural competition for devising a conception of re-development concerning post-industrial structures located at Sienkiewicza 61/63 in Łódź has been announced. The project is supposed to take the realization of green roofs into consideration.

A contest for a revitalization project of post-industrial buildings at Sienkiewicza 61/63 Street in Łódź with realization of green roofs has been announced. As chairman in the Office for Revitalization and Buildings Development of the City of Łódź Office Marcin Obijalski informs – an innovative idea concerning the realization of green areas on roofs received over 1000 votes during the voting for tasks of the civil budget in the City of Łódź.

A development at Sienkiewicza 61 and 63 Street is covered in the area revitalization program. The "Green Roofs" competition includes adaptation and cutting through a pedestrian precinct from Nawrot Street to Komuna Paryska Square as well as a mentioned green terrace on the roof. At present, new creative premises are being realized at that address and thus the city is gaining another off zone which is supposed to attract inhabitants of Łódź and tourists.

The first prize in the competition aimed at architects and studios will be an execution of the whole conceptual and realization project for a contractor. The works may be submitted till 20th May this year, whereas the final design with building permits is to be realized at the end of the year.

The completion of the adaptation and revitalization of the post-industrial complex at Sienkiewicza Street is planned on 2017. The cost estimate of the design stage amounts to ca. 1 million zlotys from the means of the civil budget.

Bartosz Poniatowski from the City Architect Office emphasized that such developments and green roofs are very popular in Europe, i.a. in Germany and in the Netherlands. They not only create new areas and places but also serve the ecology – they absorb rain water, create micro-climate and purify the air in a close sprawl.

More information about the competition is available on the City of Łódź Office website.
