Skyscrapers are built all over the world - can any of them overcome the magical barrier of 1,000 metres of height?

As soon as the global economy has slightly stabilised, skyscrapers were built all over the world. They have reached staggering heights, impossible to imagine even a few years ago. It is enough to look at the simple comparison: average height of ten currently built highest skyscrapers is 114 metres higher than their counterparts ten years ago.

Emporis website has prepared a list of ten biggest currently built skyscrapers. As many as seven of them are being constructed in China, but the biggest, Kingdom Tower, can be found in Saudi Arabia. This giant building will be the first to break the magical barrier of 1,000 metres of height. Its construction started in March and will continue until 2018.

Currently the highest building in the world is Burj Khalifain the United Arab Emirates, having the staggering height of 829 metres.

On the third place on the list of currently constructed buildings is Wuhan Greenland Center, which will be 636 metres high. Right after there is Shanghai Tower, shorter only by four metres. Recently there was perch build on the object. After it is finished, it will be the highest building in China, offering office and commercial space on 121 storeys.

In both Americas there is only one constructed object, which can be a competition for Asian giants. The building in question is 541-metre high One World Trade Center in New York, which is to be finished this year. Despite that, USA, once a leader in skyscraper sector, will not have any of the 10 tallest buildings in the following years.

Recently emotions were stirred by Sky City project in Changsha, China, which will be taller than Burj Khalifa and have 838 metres. The object became famous also because of the pace at which it will be built - the construction is planned for only 10 months. It is not known, if the project will be finished in 2014, as planned. According to the media reports, the construction was stopped a few days after putting of the cornerstone.
