Historical Plot At Garbary Street in Poznań Gains New Life

Vastint revitalizes the historical area at Garbary Street in Poznań
Vastint Poland has purchased the plot of the old Municipal Slaughter House. The company plans to transform it into a multi-use area with lots of work places, apartments and public space.

The property purchased by Vastint Poland is situated in the northern part of the city center of Poznań within Garbary, Grochowe Łąki and Północna Streets. This is the area of the former Municipal Slaughter House. It’s where one of the most innovative meatpackers in contemporary Europe was launched in 1900. The production was relocated outside the city in the 90-ties of the 20th century and since then, the buildings have remained unexploited. Vastint Poland has decided to define both functions and character of this city block anew. There will be work places, apartments and public space on nearly 5.5 ha. The planned space of this future development is ca. 70 000 sq. m. The buildings will preserve the postindustrial character of the former meatpacker.

The initial urban concept consists in the combination of modern architectural solutions with the historical context of this place. There are developments that erected at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, including main hall, boiler room, engine room, water tower and some of them will be an attractive and central part of this new assumption after the revitalization. There will be a public space with commercial as well as artistic and exhibition functions. The remaining part of the plot will be mainly intended for residential functions with some services. The conceptual and design works will last two years. I hope that their final effect will be warmly welcomed by the inhabitants of Poznań – says Roger Andersson, Managing Director, Vastint Poland.

Investments on such scale don’t appear out of nowhere. Public investments provide an impulse; they create conditions for carrying out such projects as development of the area after the Old Municipal Slaughter House. As city authorities, our actions are aimed at people so that they could return to the city center. We know what the investors need to make decisions concerning their projects. Thanks to such decisions, concrete areas come alive. This project is to restore the former glory to historical buildings. It’ll transform this area into an architecturally interesting fragment of the city center, filling it with people – explains Jacek Jaśkowiak, President of the City of Poznań.

Grobary will be the third investment of Vastint in Poznań. This developer is currently building the second stage of Business Garden at Kolorowej Street and planning the execution of the residential project “Porotowo” in Starołęka.
