The city of Bytom commissioned almost 20-hectare and fully armed area of the former KWK Powstańcow Śląskich coal mine in the Katowice Special Economic Zone. The investment was realized thanks to a bailout from the European Union. The fact of intending means by the European Union for such objectives is a very good idea because it brings real profits to the city – says Damian Bartyla, president of Bytom. Practically every single city has investment areas, however, only few of them offer areas in such a perfect condition to entrepreneurs – adds Bartyla. The total value of the investment amounts to over 21 million zlotys, 5.5 million zlotys of which were financed from the means of the city and the rest of them – 15.7 million zlotys – from the European Regional Development Fund within RPO WSL for the years 2007-2013. We received the information about the bailout on the last day of 2014. Many boroughs from the whole Silesian region applied for it, but only 4 of them presented good projects – says Lucjan Goczoł, chairman of Strategic Planning Paper and European Funds UM.

All entrepreneurs who would like to invest in the area will be able to benefit from e.g. electric and water supply network as well as rain sewer, sanitary and teletechnical systems. Potential investors will also have aggregate and access roads with pavements, bicycle roads and parking places at their disposal. The investment areas commissioned by the city are very well-communicated. They are located at the national road DK 11 – Bytom – Poznań – Kołobrzeg. There is a bypass and turning from the highway A1 in close proximity. The areas were included in the Katowice Special Economic Zone on May 2014. It means that investors will have many exemptions while running a business activity in that place. The interest of entrepreneurs in our areas is becoming more and more higher – says Izabela Domogała, chief in Department of Strategies and European Funds. One letter of intent in this case has been already signed and other potential investors are visiting this place.

Thanks to this investment, it is understanable that development of post-industrial areas is very expensive – emphasized Izabela Domogała. Without the support from the European Union we would not be able to afford the fitment on that area.
