According to the Central Statistical Office in Poland (GUS), the unemployment rate amounted to 8.6 per cent in July. It has been the smallest amount since 1992, that is the date of starting the survey. The drop in unemployment was recorded in all voivodships.

1 361 500 people were registered as unemployed in the labor offices at the end of July this year. This number decreased by 31 thousand, that is 2.2 per cent, in comparison to June. This year’s result is lower by 14.1 per cent (224.2 thousand people) than in July 2015.

 

The unemployment rate in Polish voivodships is differentiated. It amounted to 5.3 per cent in Wielkopolskie Voivodship and 14 per cent in Warmińsko-Mazurskie Voivodship. The biggest decreases of the unemployment in comparison to June 2016 were recorded in the following voivodships: Małopolskie, Pomorskie, Śląskie, Warmińsko-Mazurskie and Zachodniopomorskie (0.3 percentage points).

 

It can be observed that the participation of women was higher by 1.0 percentage point at the end of July this year than in the previous year. Women constituted 53.8 per cent of the registered people in the labor office.

 

There are also more people who are without the right to benefit payments than in the previous year (increase by 0.2 percentage points). They constitute 86.1 per cent of the registered unemployed. The interest of people without the vocational qualifications increased to over 30 per cent, whereas the number of people who have not recently been working decreased by 1 percentage point (they constitute 14.9 per cent). There are also less graduates among the registered unemployed in comparison to the previous year (2.4 per cent of people).

 

128 800 job offers were registered in the labor offices in July this year. It is 11.8 per cent less than in June this year, however, it is still higher by 9.1 per cent than in the previous year. The amount of job offers from the public sector has decreased within both the month and the year. They constituted 8.5 per cent of the totality, and in the previous year – 11.5 per cent. The amount of offers from the private sector was higher than in July 2015.

 

More than 5 million people were hired in the sector of enterprises in July this year, which constitutes increase by 3.2 per cent in comparison to the previous year. The highest increase in employment was recorded in such sectors as information and communication (by 10.7 per cent) as well as administration and supporting activity (by 10.6 per cent).
