The giant in social media is opening its office in Hong Kong in the first quarter of 2015.

Twitter has a ban to function in China from 2009. The authorities there are afraid that the American portal may be used to organize anti-government protests. In spite of the imposed banning, the present strategy of the service envisages development in the region of Asia, including the Middle Kingdom.

There will a headquarters of departments related to sales in the Hong Kong office. It will be the fifth – after Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul and Sydney – service center of Twitter in the region of Asia and Pacific.

Although the base of Twitter users increased by 23 per cent last month, the organization is struggling with a problem of decline in people having an account in the service. Moreover, the shares of the company in the New York Stock Exchange decreased by ca. 36 per cent this year and the revenues in the fourth quarter of 2014 may not meet minimal expectations. The enterprise does not hide that the falling interest in the portal and decreasing value of the organization are the main reasons of the expansion.

Twitter was founded in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams and Biz Stone. The portal made its debut on the New York Stock Exchange on 7th November 2013.
